Imagine you would like to know about what bread is? At first sight, mythologically speaking someone could be said something as: "It is a divine gift". But for Presocratics that answers was not enough. Probably, They would had some questions such as. What was the bread made of? why the mass the douhgh become hard at cooking? This was part of the beggining of a sistematically way of thinking in which the Logos (reasoning) brought out in that civilization.

This view differed significantly from animism, which explained natural phenomena through external spirits, and from materialism, which regarded matter as lifeless and governed only by physical laws.
